How to use the AES Encrypt (Text)

  1. Enter a strong password in the options, type or paste your text, then run the conversion.
  2. Keep the password safe: the text cannot be recovered without it.

Privacy and limitations

  • Your data is processed on your device and is not uploaded to any server.
  • Output format: Base64 of salt (16 bytes) + IV (12 bytes) + ciphertext with 16-byte GCM tag. The key is PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 600,000 iterations.
  • Requires a secure (https) page because the Web Crypto API is only available there.

Frequently asked questions

Can other tools decrypt this?

Yes, any AES-256-GCM implementation can: decode the Base64, take the first 16 bytes as the PBKDF2 salt and the next 12 as the IV, derive the key with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600,000 iterations, 32 bytes) and decrypt the rest, whose last 16 bytes are the authentication tag.
